Williston Businesswomen Continues
On May 13th, Kaleidoscope Yarns opened at 15 Pearl Street in Essex Junction. The shop continues the tradition of providing a haven for knitters, one started 62 years ago by Mary T. Booth Yarn Shop of Essex Junction. When Mary T. Booth Yarn Shop announced in January that it would be closing its doors in April, many knitters felt a great sense of loss. The shop had built a loyal following by providing excellent customer service and offering an extensive inventory and a wide range of knitting products. The shop served many local and out of state customers. “I was in mourning when I heard the news”, said Jill Bujold of Williston, Vermont “and I knew that I was not alone”. Bujold has been an avid knitter for over 20 years and has a retail background. The week of the announcement, Bujold approached Marilyn and Bob Vincent and Carol Booth of the Mary T. Booth Yarn Shop, about opening a shop that would fill the void created by the closing of their shop. The Vincents and Booths were very eager to see a new shop created in order to support their customers and offered to help Bujold extensively. “I always wanted to start a business, but there was never a need for another yarn shop. With Mary Booth’s announcement of their closing, I knew so many knitters out there would be lost. I felt someone had to do it, and the timing was just right for it to be me.”“We felt a sense of guilt when we retired. Helping Jill is our way to make the transition easier for our customers,” said Carol Booth. “While several people approached us after our announcement, Jill was the only one who had a passion for knitting, product knowledge, and retail experience,” add Marilyn and Bob Vincent. “She also understands the importance of friendly and knowledgeable customer service, and the need for a quality inventory.” The Booths and the Vincents offered Bujold incredible support and helpful advice.Kaleidoscope Yarns carries many of the same products as Mary T. Booth Yarn Shop and also features several new lines. After the first two weeks, Bujold is amazed at everyone’s support. “People have come in and thanked me for opening the shop. Some have even hugged me and brought flowers! They were all so worried about where to go and I think they’re feeling a bit more relaxed once they come in and see what I have to offer. Everyone has been so excited about the shop, and so welcoming of me,” says Bujold.Kaleidoscope Yarns is entering the market at a great time. Knitting is experiencing a great resurgence recently as a reliever of stress. According to the Craft Yarn Council of America, 38 million women in America knit (more than one in three). The most rapid growing demographic is women in their 20s and 30s. Even Hollywood stars such as Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz have publicly discussed their passion for knitting, further fueling the growth.Kaleidoscope Yarns is located at 15 Pearl Street in the heart of Essex Junction, less than one mile from the Mary T. Booth Yarn Shop location. The shop phone number is (802)-288-9200.
