In 2018, School on Wheels distributed up to 5,000 of these backpacks.Here’s the history: School on Wheels provides tutoring to children living in shelters, motels, cars, group foster homes and on the streets. According to the group’s website, their aim is to provide their students “stability in a time of stress and transition and help them achieve educational success so that they may break the cycle of homelessness and poverty.”Here are the suggested donations: Pencil cases, markers, colored pencils, crayons, binders, homework folders, graph paper, subject dividers, backpacks, calculators, and others.The School on Wheels website has a wish list of items that the children they serve need at www.schoolonwheels.org.The back-to-school supply drive is also available at all of the other The Pie Hole branches.
