first_imgClose to 300 people turned up at the Murray Barracks to watch the first of the three POMRFL grand finals.It was a scrappy first few minutes of football from both sides with poor ball handling.The fifteen minute mark saw first points to Defence from a penalty goal, kicked 30 metres by five eighth Kennedy Juria.Defence allowed Brothers back into the game right from the restart giving away a penalty.Brothers wasted no time getting on the board after a good offload by Steven Yei to give the ball out to winger Abbas Mondia to dive over and score on the wing.Albert Paul had no trouble hooking the kick in from the side line to put his side in the lead at 6-2.Defence equalized seconds before half time when quick hands allowed Jeff Tiki Ainani to sneak over on the wing to score.The score was left at 6-6 at the break after Kennedy Juria missed his conversion from the side line.Points were hard to come by in the second half and Defence opened to kick for goal after being awarded a penalty.From 40 metres out and from the right, Juria swerved the ball through the posts to give Defence an 8-6 lead midway through the second half.With seconds left on the clock, it looked like the win for was sealed for Defence.With one last play thirty metres out, Brothers hit the wing and sent Jocky Gare crashing over to score the winning try.This is the first premiership win for Brothers in the U19 men’s division.Brothers walked away with K5000 and Defence settled for K3000.last_img read more
